On view from November 2, 2024 – June 29, 2025
Located in the Kohan, Newell and Friends of Artis—Naples Galleries of Hayes Hall
This annual exhibition at the Artis-Naples Baker Museum presents a select group of notable visual artists practicing in Florida. Highlighting the breadth of artistic approaches to personal, local, and global themes, Florida Contemporary invites visitors to celebrate the state’s vibrant art scene. Among the 3 artists selected for the 12th edition of the exhibition is K Contemporary's very own Marielle Plaisir, who is based out of Miami.
The exhibition features artists with diverse artistic interests and backgrounds who hail from various locations throughout Florida. This year's selected artists bring a dazzling variety of approaches to materiality in their work, ultimately testifying to the creative energies and intellectual vigor that Florida's art world fosters.
Marielle Plaisir is a multi-disciplinary artist of French-Caribbean descent who tackles the theme of social domination in her work and delves into issues surrounding colonialism, race, and class. By recontextualizing harmful histories, Marielle offers hope for a better future.
Through her artistic translations, Plaisir questions power structures on a global scale. Her art takes many forms, including painting, sculpture, photography, installation, film, and performance, which combine to create powerful visual experiences. She particularly focuses on exploring the construction of collective and individual identity as well as how people who were born into struggle and inequity reclaim their power.
