#ArtFindsUs - A Mobile Art Experience

#ArtFindsUs, A Mobile Contemporary Art Experience, Travels through Denver and Boulder April 27 through May 1

Traveling Billboard Truck Brings Gift of Art to Communities

DENVER (April 23, 2020) – From April 27 through May 1, through the #ArtFindsUs project, K Contemporary, an art gallery located in lower downtown Denver, will bring contemporary art to people throughout Denver and Boulder. A rented billboard truck will drive to predetermined routes, displaying a photograph reproduction of artwork by artists Shawn Huckins and Daisy Patton on each side. The purpose of the #ArtFindsUsproject is to bring art into communities, allowing for unusual and memorable encounters with mobile, temporary murals.

Dates and times of #ArtFindsUs include the following.

Monday, April 27 – Denver locations, times TBD

Tuesday, April 28 – Denver locations, 2 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Wednesday, April 29 – Denver locations, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.   View Wed Route Here

The two artworks, created by K Contemporary represented artists Huckins and Patton, will measure 9 feet by 18 feet, allowing for full visibility from the comfort of one’s home or apartment. Typically, these billboard trucks show larger-than-life advertisements for sports bars and apartment complexes. But this truck is a traveling art gallery, delivering art to people of all backgrounds in a variety of neighborhoods, including Montbello, LoDo, RiNo, LoHi, Cherry Creek, Villa Park and Sun Valley, to name a few.

“#ArtFindsUs provides an interesting opportunity to see where we want our culture to go and to spark the kind of conversations about how we want to show up as a society,” said Doug Kacena, K Contemporary owner and project curator. “We find ourselves at a unique crossroad where the way we experience, resonate and engage with art has changed. I think we are on the precipice of a new cultural Renaissance globally. The #ArtFindsUs project is only the beginning in a series of pop-up, offsite and public installations that I have planned in conversation with our in-gallery exhibition schedule.”

“Even when the stay-at-home orders eventually lift, galleries and museums will have to adapt to a new normal,” said Kacena. “Although many of these cultural institutions are offering virtual or digital content for their fans and followers, the constant online stream of white cube style gallery shows lacks the authenticity of experiencing art in person.”

K Contemporary has already made a name for itself in the Denver art community as a new breed of gallery, one that focuses on pop-ups, take-overs and other guerrilla tactics to bring art to the people in offbeat and sometimes disruptive ways.

To abide by the stay-at-home orders for Colorado, viewers are asked to watch the truck while adhering to social distancing guidelines and not congregate around it when it stops for photographs.
