Marielle Plaisir created this public art installation for Fort Lauderdale International Airport in partnership with the Broward Cultural Division.

As described by Plaisir's studio, "A Journey is conceived as a long terrazzo floor where branches and roots intricately weave through a serene blue backdrop. These elements are punctuated by large, vivid pink flowers, fresh green buds, and golden leaves. The idea is to create a long and beautiful path where children will probably run along the curves of the branches or stop in the middle of a flower. However, for most passersby, both travelers and locals alike, it will be a walk or baggage roll without a second thought, akin to a leisurely journey along a tranquil river, scarcely interrupted."

The artist explains, "This region's identity is profoundly shaped by the vibrant cultures of Latin America, the Caribbean islands, and the rich Native American heritage intertwined within it. The choice of blue in this extended path embodies the enduring values of these cultures. The blue is also reminiscent of the nearby sea, known for its crystal clear waters fed by the Gulf Stream which brings warm blue water from the Gulf of Mexico. The intertwining branches and roots recall the mixing of cultures."
